Non-Invasive Diagnosis. A Service Price Before We Start.

A steady drop in your pool’s water level or an unexplained spike on your Cal Water bill are the first signs most Visalia homeowners notice. The question is whether you’re losing water to a genuine leak or to the Central Valley heat. We answer that question precisely, using Non-Invasive Methods that locate the source without tearing up your deck or draining your pool. That’s the foundation of our “Leak Detection Without Destruction™” principle.

The Original Leak Detection Specialists™ Since 1974

American Leak Detection of Central California is part of a company that has located leaks across the country since 1974. As the original Leak Detection Specialists™, we’ve developed proprietary techniques that no general plumber or pool service carries. Our technicians complete a rigorous training program before they arrive at your property, and when they do, they show up on time, finish within the agreed timeframe, and leave your yard exactly as they found it.

How We Find Pool Leaks Without Digging

We use two core diagnostic methods: Hydrostatic Pressure Testing and Electronic Leak Detection. Hydrostatic Pressure Testing isolates individual plumbing lines under pressure to confirm whether a line is holding or losing water. Electronic Leak Detection uses advanced listening equipment to trace the location of a breach within the pool shell, fittings, or underground plumbing. Together, these methods provide a precise diagnosis before any demolition decision is made.

Why Visalia’s Climate Makes Leak Detection Harder

Summer temperatures in the Central Valley regularly push past 100 degrees, and evaporation in that heat can look a lot like a slow leak. Visalia pool owners often add water for weeks before realizing the loss goes beyond what the weather explains. Our technicians know that distinction matters here, and they assess failure points specific to the local climate and construction styles found from North Visalia to the city’s southern outskirts.

Signs Your Visalia Pool May Have a Leak

Not every drop in water level points to a structural problem, but some signs go beyond normal evaporation. Before booking a service call, it’s worth running through a quick self-check.

Common warning signs:

Needing to add water more than once or twice a week
Wet or soggy ground around the equipment pad
Visible cracks in the pool deck or coping
Higher chemical usage without a corresponding increase in pool use
An unexplained increase on your Cal Water bill

We offer three DIY checks you can run at home: the Bucket Test, the Meter Test, and our Swimming Pool Water Loss Calculator. Each one helps you compare your pool’s actual water loss against expected evaporation before calling us out.

What Causes Pool Leaks in the Visalia Area

Visalia’s clay-rich soil shifts with the seasons, expanding when wet and contracting during dry stretches. That constant movement puts stress on underground plumbing and the pool shell, and over time it can shear PVC return lines or separate a skimmer from the pool wall entirely.

Extreme temperature swings add a second layer of stress. Heat causes concrete decks and coping to expand, and cracks that open during summer can create new pathways for water loss that weren’t there the season before. Older pools in established Visalia neighborhoods often compound this with deteriorating main drains and return fittings that weren’t built to last this long.

Frequent leak locations our technicians investigate:

Skimmer throat: The joint where the skimmer meets the pool wall is one of the most common failure points in any pool, regardless of age
Underground return lines: Soil movement can crack or separate buried PVC pipes well below the surface
Gunite shell: Stress fractures in the pool shell can be invisible from the water surface but measurable under pressure testing
Main drains and return fittings: Aging hardware in older pools loses its seal over time
